CASSIOPEE CONCEPT

AGENCE
The agency was founded in 1997 by two DPLG architects from E.A.P.V., Maryline Mancinelli and Xavier Franc. Today it counts a staff of over 10 people, and carries out many property renovation projects for office space and housing.

Identity and specificity define being.
Under the weight of regulatory standards and the rising inflation in construction materials and land prices, construction costs are rising steadily against a backdrop of a fragile real estate market. The means used to meet these challenging conditions have been to rely on high volumes, mass production and to shrink the size of the living spaces. Globalization and mass replication of standards have reached a level such that we have reached the limits of this process. The mass trivialization is giving way to the search of identity, specificity and well-being.

"The Spirit of the Setting"
History, construction methods, quality of building materials and space all characterize the “spirit of the setting”. This concept is at the center of our concerns and is present at all levels -planning, architecture, and interior design- in new constructions as well as refurbishment of existing and older buildings.
Identifying the specific potential (whether linked to the site, the space, or the materials) is the starting point of any design program. More evidence there is of the perception of knowledge of the origins of the space, the understanding of its structure and its evolution, the higher the adequacy to the space. This allows restoring the “inertia” of the site, a crucial foundation for a long lasting construction of the building and the being.

“Evolving spaces respond to a multiple usages
The notion of the “free plan” exists since the beginning of the twentieth century. It originated in the Japanese architecture and was developed in Europe by architects from the minimalist school such as Mies van der Rohe. This very current trend combines functionalism to renunciation to ornaments, focusing on the enhancement of building materials. The multiple use approach is growing both in the work and living spaces.
The workplace is evolving towards a trend of “warmth” and open spaces broken down by common areas producing spaces of convivial exchange and communication. Productivity is increasingly linked with the ability to share and exchange. This shapes the space which must fit a wider set of functions.
In housing the demand is due to the lack of space given the multiple uses. Adaptable structures are almost unavoidable at this stage in order to provide large living spaces that can be reshaped throughout the day along the different activities. The rooms are no longer required to shape and crystallize the space. It is the need for freedom that prevails in the notion of space.
We reject the notion that specificity by opposition to standardization is expensive and costly. Specificity and identity are in all things and beings. We must reveal them and give them to their full meaning.
